Roy Davis, 74 of Danville, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, surrounded by those he loved. Memorial Visitation will be from 10:30-12:30pm on Tuesday, April 23rd at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. The local Patriot Guard will stand guard during our visitation, and assist in escorting us to Roy's final place of rest. Graveside services will follow at 1pm at Danville National Cemetery, 1900 E. Main Street in Danville with Pastor Matt Filicsky officiating. American Legion Post 210 will give military honors.
Roy was born in Kansas City, MO to Garnet and Grace (Fields) Davis. Roy spent his early childhood in Missouri, and moved to Chula Vista, California when he was 10 to live with his brother. At seventeen he lied about his age and enlisted in the US Army to serve his country. Roy served two tours in Vietnam before leaving the service in 1969. After serving his country Roy moved to Danville to attend college. While in school he worked at Record Rack and Rako Security. He then went back to college, earned an Associate Degree in Welding, and began a career at Thyssen Krupp which would last for over fifteen years. He also worked for Fastenal for a short time before his health prohibited him from working anymore.
In his later years, Roy was blessed to do some traveling. He attended the D-Troop 1/10th Calvary in Vietnam 1965-1971 Reunion in Orlando, Florida in 2010. He got to reunite with people he hadn’t seen since the war. Roy was also blessed a few years later to spend a weekend in Chicago with his friend Kelly Hazel, enjoying the Traveling Vietnam Wall.
Roy enjoyed gardening, riding his Harley, working on his 1967 Chevelle, and hanging with his friend Don Holmes. Biscuits and Gravy at Lupita’s Family Restaurant was almost a daily occurrence.
Roy met Ronna (Mauk) Sokola on January 11, 1981 when a mutual friend invited them together to play cards. Every day after that, and up until the moment he took his last breath, the two were together. On May 27, 1989 the two blended their families in marriage- David (Whitney) Sokola, Daniel Sokola Jr (Maria), and Chrystal Davis. Grandchildren Madisun, Macey, Greyson, Austin, Alex, Auden, and Vinnie would later follow to make their family complete.
When he knocked on Heaven’s door, I am sure that Roy was greeted by his parents, his brothers John and Robert, and his friend Joe Talkowski.
