Bill Cronkhite, 71 of Danville, passed away at his home on Monday, April 22, 2024. Per his wishes he will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Bill was born on December 31, 1952 in Danville to Eugene and Juanita (Witty) Cronkhite. He attended Danville area schools, graduating from DHS. While in high school he played in the marching band and played DHS football as a line backer. Bill went on to attend classes at Lincoln Christian College. Bill worked as a Tool and Die maker, and was a supervisor nearly everywhere he ever worked. Throughout the years he worked at Danville Metal Stamping, ESCO, and Guardian West, retiring in July of 2013. Bill was a ham radio enthusiast, enjoyed collecting stamps, racing RC cars and airplanes, and bowling in the local leagues. He was also well known for playing bass guitar and keyboard in a band when he was younger. Bill coached baseball when his son was young.
Bill married Opal McDaniel on May 10, 1975 here in Danville at their home, and the two have spent the last forty-nine years by each other’s sides. He leaves behind his wife Opal, a son Wayne (Lisa) Cronkhite, and a granddaughter Nia’Zjianna Cronkhite. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son James Lynn Cronkhite.
