Burton "Pap" Dale Spencer

   Burton “Pap” Spencer, 70 of Danville, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019 at OSF in Urbana. Visitation will be from 10am to Noon on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Kruger Coan Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville, with services immediately following at Noon.  The family asks that you come as you are, as pap would’ve wanted it that way. Following services Burton will be laid to rest at Danville National with military honors by American Legion Post 210.

   Pap was born on June 5, 1949 in Bowen, Kentucky to Charley and Laura (Quilan) Spencer.  He attended school through the eighth grade before enlisting in the US Army. During his time in the service he earned both a Purple Heart and National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning from the service Pap worked as a farmer. In his free time he could often be found outdoors- fishing, hunting, attending auctions, and teaching his grandchildren how to properly do all of those. He also loved Pinterest, cooking (and eating), and was an avid Bears Fan.

   Pap married Linda Harper on September 12, 1970 and the two just celebrated forty-nine years together; she survives. He also leaves behind his two daughters: Beth (Eric) Loy and Sheryl Spencer; six grandchildren: Jessica, Laciee, Austin, Emma, Logen, and Maddy; two great grandchildren: Bristol and Maliki; a brother: Fred Spencer; and three sisters: Joyce Murray, Helen Tate, and Ruby Frazier. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Richard, and two brothers: Denzel and James.
