Alfred Story Obituary

Alfred Donald (Don) Story passed away peacefully with family near on January 7, 2021 in Panama City, Florida.

Don, as he preferred to be called, was born on August 3, 1926 in Danville, Illinois to William H. and Adabelle (Wilson) Story. Don was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Don was happily married to Lela Faye Nichols on Sept. 1, 1945. She preceded him in death, as well as two sons, Donald Eddie Story and Thomas William Story.

Don attended Danville schools, graduating from Danville High School. He attended the University of Utah as part of his enlistment in the US Navy. Don was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946.

Upon his return to Danville,IL after his Navy discharge, Don was employed by Holmes Brothers as an engineer. He finished his engineering career in 1991 at Tee Pak.  Don was a licensed professional engineer in the State of Illinois, keeping his license active until his death.

Don was active in the Illinois Professional Engineers Society, and was very active in the Toastmasters organization where he served as International Director. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 210, Elks Club, AmVets (in Florida) and several engineering groups in the Panama City area.

Don was a very loving, caring husband and father to his wife and three sons. He and Lela Faye were blessed to have the opportunity to travel the world through his employment at Tee Pak, and with his Toastmasters international post. Don was a brilliant man whose thirst for knowledge was never satisfied. He loved people, and never knew a stranger, making lasting friendships wherever he went in the world. Don always had a story to tell, and could tell a really good joke. His memory was clear, able to recall in near perfect detail the slightest anecdotes from even his early childhood.
