Carol Kemna Obituary

Carol Ann Kemna, 65, of Danville, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation will be from 10-Noon on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Kruger-Coan-Pape Funeral Home at 10 E Williams Street in Danville. Family will have a private graveside service following the visitation, with burial at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery near Westville. IDPH guidelines will be strictly followed regarding gathering limitations, masks and social distancing.

Carol was born June 3, 1955 in Danville to Arthur and Sandra (Burton) Balsamello. Carol graduated from Westville High School in 1974. She went on to Illinois State University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education.  While attending ISU she performed in the Gamma Phi Circus and was an active cheerleader. After college, Carol became a teacher at Pinecrest Elementary School in Georgetown. While she was there, she created and started the Young Authors Program.

At Carol’s 25th year High School Reunion, she was reunited with classmate Kevin Kemna. They married on July 28th, 2000. They enjoyed 20 years of marriage together. 

Carol had a love for animals, and she enjoyed being outdoors. She spent most of her time in their cabin in the woods where she was surrounded by her beloved animals.

Carol will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kevin Kemna, also surviving include her daughter Jaclyn Creason (Ryan Mathis); her step-daughters Rachel (Brian) Gratz, Stacy (Travis) Schackmann, Holly (Dallas) Hamm; her grandchildren Max Mathis, Parker Gratz, Ella and Clayton Schackmann and Keaton Hamm; her brother John (Leslie) Balsamello; her sister Arlene (Gregg) Alpers; her brother-in-law Dick Haugen; her sister-in-law Karen Turner, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; Arthur and Sandra Balsamello and her sister Cassandra Haugen.
