Cleo Mockbee Obituary

Cleo L. Mockbee, 81 of Danville, IL, passed away at 5:48 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021, at OSF Sacred Heart in Danville.

Celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on February 20, 2021 with service following at Kruger Coan Pape Funeral Homes, located at 10 E. Williams St., Danville, IL. Current CDC and IDPH guidelines will be strictly enforced regarding social distancing, masks, and allowable numbers

Cleo was born in Jamesburg, IL., on Dec. 8, 1939, the son of Cleo L. Mockbee Sr. and Dallas Irene Holt. He married Kay Ellis-Mockbee on Sept. 7, 1990 in Jacksonville, IL; she survives.

Cleo was in the Army from 1963 to 1965, he served as Military Police in Hamburg, Germany. While he was in the military, he played basketball on the Army team. He worked at Hyster’s from 1959 to 1990 and played basketball on the industrial league. He then went to work at Masterguard in Veedersburg, IN from 1993 to 2008; when he retired. Cleo loved boating, bowling, basketball, and motorcycles. His favorite baseball team was the NY Yankees, and his favorite basketball team was the Fighting Illini. Cleo and Kay loved traveling cross-country on the motorcycle; together they went to Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Reno. He enjoyed playing cards, some of his favorites were poker, Canasta, and Euchre.

He is survived by his wife Kay Ellis-Mockbee and his fur babies; Tommy, Madi and Rascal (Danville, IL) and a brother, Gary Mockbee (Jamesburg, IL). He is also survived by his niece Jamie (Denver) Piatt, their children Elli Brooks (Canton, IL), Courtney Piatt, Daiton Piatt, Kylie Piatt, and Katie Piatt (Paxton, IL). He is also survived by his niece Helena (James) Longfellow and their daughter Audrianna Longfellow (Paxton, IL), and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn K. Mockbee.
