A much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Constance Jo Anne Oder, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on January 19th, 2026 with her family present. She bravely fought both cancer and dementia these last four years but now can finally rest.
Connie was born October 27th, 1940 in Peoria, IL and grew up in the small town of Chillicothe. She graduated from Chillicothe High School and Mid-State College of Commerce.
In 1970 she married JB Oder and began a new life in Danville. Together they built a business. She also worked for the Moon Glo as a waitress and cook for twenty years until her retirement. The Moon Glo folks were a second family to her. It was literally a place “where everyone knew her name.”
Connie was an accomplished seamstress, furniture refinisher, and upholsterer. She was a lifetime member of the National Home Gardening Club and the NRA. She grew and canned her own vegetables, fruits, and often shared with others. She loved to bake and always had a zucchini bread or blueberry pie to share with a neighbor or friend.
Connie was a lifelong blood donor and over the years she donated a total of 170 pints, which equates to 21.4 gallons. Connie had a special place in her heart for women struggling. She often loaned money and resources to help them out of a tough situation.
She is survived by two sons: Louis Griswold (Robin) of Jacksonville, FL and Dennis Griswold (Theresa) of Chillicothe, IL; a daughter: Beckie Metelko (Mike) of White, GA; her grandchildren: Bill, Amii, Beth, Heather, Jenny, and Mehgan; and her great grandchildren: Haylee, Keith, Emma, Will, Harper, and Lincoln. She also leaves behind multiple nieces and nephews and her adopted family Chuck Burmeister and Phil Adams. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband JB Oder, her son Richard Griswold, and two brothers: Don Curtiss and Thomas Rohman.
Services will be at 1pm at The VA Chapel on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Messages and memories for the family may be left on our website at www.krugercoanpape.com, or on the Kruger Funeral Home & Crematory Facebook page. Connie was an avid pet lover, and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Hospice Hearts Animal Rescue, PO Box 17605, Urbana, Illinois 61803 or online at www.hospiceheartsanimalrescue.org
