Donald G. Gibson, 86 of Danville, passed away unexpectantly on Monday, June 13, 2022 at his home. Visitation will be from 11-1pm on Friday, June 17th at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville with services to follow at 1pm with Dale DeNeal officiating. Burial will follow at Stearns Cemetery in Muncie.
Don was born on June 2, 1936 in Arcola to William and Imogene (Lynch) Gibson. He attended Arcola schools. He retired as a machinist from Towne Machine & Tool. Don was also known as a “Mr. Fix It” as he didn’t hesitate to help family and friends in need. If he couldn’t find a part to fix the item, he would create it. Don was a Unites States Navy veteran.
Don enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dancing to country music, playing blackjack at casinos, bowling, and going to ballgames (he liked the Illini, Bears and Cubs, but the Cardinals were his favorite). He loved travelling with his wife, family and friends, and made it to all fifty states and many international destinations before he passed.
Don married Shirley (Hathaway) Gerard on December 9, 1967 in Danville and she survives. They two shared nearly fifty-five years together before his passing. Survivors include two step-children: Donna S. Davis and Kevin (Patricia) Gerard; grandchildren: Justin (Michelle) Davis and Lance Davis, Christine Anglemyer, and Timothy (Jamie) Schultz. His great grandchildren Hayden and Drew Davis, plus nine step-grandchildren will miss him as well. Don will be missed by many close friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in passing by his parents, brothers: John, Larry and twin brother Johnnie; son in law Robert J. Davis; and step-granddaughter Stacey (Schultz) Smith.
