Donald A. Thiede, 86 of Danville, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at North Logan Healthcare Center. A visitation will be on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 11-1pm at Kruger-Coan-Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Masonic Services by Anchor Lodge will begin at 1pm, followed by funeral services at 1:15pm. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery where Don will be laid to rest by his wife Shirley.
Don was born on April 21, 1932 in Danville to Albert William and Mildred May (Cook) Thiede. He attended Cannon Grade School and Danville High School, graduating in 1950. Don was a salesman for the biggest part of his life at Central States Oil Company for thirty two years before retiring in 1997. He was a fifty-plus year member of Anchor Masonic Lodge, and spent a lot of time at the Gao Grotto, where he was a Shriner and also secretary/treasurer. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and could often be found rooting them on. In his younger years he enjoyed working on cars, and taking camping trips with his wife and grandchildren.
Don married Shirley May Whitaker on November 21, 1952, and she preceded him in 2003, shortly before their fifty-first wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his children: Mark (Barbara) Thiede, Debbie Wargo, Greg Thiede, and Lynn Mullen (Alan Barton); five grandchildren: Jordan Thiede, Lacy Wargo (Fred Starr), Blake (Tina) Wargo, Nick (Amanda) Mullen, and Kay Mullen; and two great-grandchildren: Aubreigh and Elizabeth. He will also be greatly missed by his brother Ronald (Shirley) Thiede and his close friend Mary Griggs, who was his traveling and life companion for the last several years. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Shirley.
Memorials may be left in Don’s name to the Shriner’s Hospital. Messages and memories may be left on our website at www.KrugerCoanPape.com, or on the Kruger-Coan-Pape Funeral Home Facebook page.
