Donna Miller Obituary

Donna Marie Miller, 70, of Danville, IL, entered into her eternal home with Jesus Christ on February 27, 2023, at 5:45 a.m. after three years with cancer.

Donna was born July 8, 1952, to Wilbur Cleo and Bessie Ferguson Hunley of Rocky Mount, VA. Her love for Jesus began at a young age as her parents served at Woodlawn Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Billy Martin.  After the family moved to Danville, VA, Donna attended public schools, graduating from George Washington High School in 1970. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in 1974 from Tennessee Temple University.

On February 1, 1971, at the TTU “Happy Corner” snack shop Donna met Mark Miller, which began a 50+ year love story. The two married on June 16, 1973. Donna was a loving mother and always close to her three children: Marcie Liebl (Jeff), John Mark Miller, II (Carolyn), and Lee Miller (Carrie). She was also an outstanding Nana to her five grandsons: Henry Liebl, Sean Liebl, Haakon Liebl, Liam Miller and John Mark Miller, III.

Donna loved teaching, and was a skilled communicator. She and Mark taught together at Christian schools in Valdosta and Bainbridge, GA, before coming to First Baptist Christian School in Danville, IL, in 1988. At First Baptist, “Mrs. Miller” taught high school English, foreign languages, keyboarding, and the girls’ Bible class. She also led as the yearbook advisor, and spearheaded the annual school Valentine’s sale. A member of First Baptist Church in Danville, Donna served as the church organist for over 30 years – playing for the final time on January 1, 2023.

Donna gave her life to teaching the Bible and sharing her hope in Jesus Christ. She was previously the 6th grade girls Sunday School teacher and also conducted summer backyard Bible clubs at her home. Donna especially loved teaching the Gleaners’ Ladies Sunday School class, spending countless hours preparing lessons and caring for her friends.

Those who will greatly miss her include her husband, her children, her grandchildren, a host of extended family members, and numerous friends and former students whom she impacted throughout her life.

The family also wishes to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for everyone who has helped Donna over these last three years, especially our friend Patti Miller who stopped by to help in every way possible virtually every day for the last three years.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville from 4-7pm. Services will begin at 10am Saturday, March 4th at First Baptist Church, 1211 N.
