Donna Swan Obituary

Donna J. Swan, 88 of Covington and formerly of Danville and Potomac, left us peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at her home. Visitation will be from 11:30-1:30pm on Wednesday, April 19th at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Graveside Services will take place at Danville National Cemetery at 2pm on Wednesday at the committal shelter. She will be laid to rest next to her husband John.

Donna was the fifth child born to Walter G. and Clara (Hanes) McCain on December 25, 1934. She attended Meadeville, PA schools graduating in 1952. She later attended Danville Area College, where she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting in 1992. Donna worked in the accounting department for the Illinois Department of Corrections where she retired in the late 90’s.  When not working, Donna could be found with knitting needles in her hands working on a baby afghan (always with the hearts in them) for someone she knew that was expecting. She liked to travel as she could-visiting her children who lived out of state, and making trips to the beach. And she enjoyed reading Suspense and Historical      Fiction.

Donna married John R. Swan on June 11, 1965 and they shared forty-one years together before his passing in May of 2006. She leaves behind her four children: Rhonda Smock Taylor, Dennis (Tina) Smock, Nancy (Lonnie) Tapscott, and John “Jack” (Brenda) Swan II; eleven grandchildren: Saul Leyva, Sydney Leyva, Jeremy Smock, Jason Roberts, Natasha Miles, Dustin Roberts, McCain Smock, Austin Christians, Cassy Christians, Dillan Christians, and Amanda Tapscott; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and her granddog Trix who she had a special relationship with. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and five brothers and sisters: Glen McCain, Gene McCain, Ted McCain, June Smith, and Jessie Haney.
