Ethel “Jean” McClain, 87 of Tilton, left this life on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation will be from 11-1pm on Monday, March 21st at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville with services immediately following. She will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery beside her husband Charles.
Jean was born on December 1, 1934, one of eleven children, to Francis and Sadie (Hullet) Harrison in Baltimore, MD. She attended school in Baltimore and met her husband Charles while he was stationed there in the Navy. The two quickly fell in love, were married on July 11, 1955, and moved to Danville where they spent their years together and raised their family.
Jean was a homemaker and raised her six children. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing and doing crochet when the children were younger, and making oil paintings. In the later years she enjoyed having her family together, playing cards, and taking trips to the casinos.
Charles died on August 2, 2019 after spending sixty-four years together. Jean leaves behind her children: Kathy (John) Liffick, Lori Carlson (Chuck Jordan), Charles “Dewey” (Lisa) McClain, Kenneth “Wayne” McClain, and Orville McClain; a son-in-law: David May; seventeen grandchildren: Katie May, Jennifer Clark, Jonathan May, Miranda Herron, Jesse Herron, Erin Barnes, Jordan Harvey, Nicholas Carlson, Jean Mecke, Jac Carlson, Alicia McClain, Ryan McClain, Nakita McClain, Raymond McClain, Rebecca Maxwell, Sara McClain, Charles McClain; and twenty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter: Judy Ann May, and all ten of her brothers and sisters.
