Harold E. “Pete” Krainock, 93, of Danville IL, passed away peacefully at his home on December 11, 2022. He was born September 2, 1929 in Olivet IL to Andrew and Viola (Hires) Krainock.

He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Funk on May 10, 1951, she preceded him in death in 2017. Together they had 3 sons, Mark Krainock of Danville, Randy (Kristie Shappell) Krainock of La Crosse WI and John (Alice) Krainock of Danville.

He is survived by his sons, 7 grandchildren Talia (Mark) Maddock, Amber Krainock, Corey (Natasha) Krainock, Jason Krainock, Jennifer (Justin Byers) Krainock, Lucas (LeiLani Oas) Shappell and Kenzie Shappell, great grandchildren Makayla & Kinley Moss, Caydence Krainock, Brady & Isabelle Hyche and Oaklen Krainock, his sister Carolyn ‘Sue’ (Malcolm) Medcalf, step-sister Sally Winn and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Calvin Krainock, Joe Krainock, sisters Norma Anderson, Rheta Ritter and Barbara Krainock.

Pete graduated from Danville High School in 1948. He served in the US Navy on the USS Montague during the Korean war. After serving his country he received his Bachelors in Education from Eastern Illinois University and his Masters in Education from the University of Illinois and is a member of Phi Sygma Kappa Fraternity.

He was a teacher, a coach, a business manager and owner. He is most known for owning Mr Steak and Mr K’s in Danville and managing at Ryder PIE. He was a sports radio commentator for U of I basketball on WITY with Neil Funk (the voice of the Bulls) in the early ‘70s. He coached many youths in Danville sports but his time with DHS football he held close to his heart.

Pete was not a stranger to anyone he met along his journey in life. One conversation and you became his “Bud” or “Sweetheart”. This personality of his lead him to be a community leader. He was a D118 School Board member from 1997-2009, serving as Vice President. He received many awards during this time including the Golden Key award.

He also served on the CRIS Board as President and was a member of the Golden Kiwanis serving as President. He was a member of American Legion Post 210, Illini Bass Club and First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon.

He was a diehard fan of U of I sports, Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. In the mid ‘90s he even had the honor of throwing out the 1st pitch at a Cubs game. He was an avid bass fisherman and enjoyed making homemade lures. He was great at telling “stories” and to throw out a quick joke. He and Marge were sure to be found cheering on the grandkids at their ballgames. Pete and Marge enjoyed nature together. They fed their birds and squirrels and loved watching the deer roam their yard.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his caregivers Cassidy Lock, Carla Schafer and Melissa Ruper, his Hospice nurse Marj and the entire Carle Hospice team. These ladies all gave Pete their love and absolute best care.
