Jerry Lee Hannan, 85 of Westville, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 at OSF Sacred Heart in Danville. Per his wishes, he has chosen to be cremated and the family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Born on May 2, 1939 at Lakeview Hospital to Wilbur and Frances (Miller) Hannan, Jerry was raised in Danville. He attended Danville High School, later going on to earn his GED. Jerry was an electrician; a trade he learned on the job that carried him through to his retirement. He worked at Berkley Davis for many, many years and later as security at Auto Zone. “Uncle Jer” as everyone referred to him, was a true character who loved to make people laugh. His orneriness and sense of humor was infectious. He was a fantastic artist, could play piano and organ by ear, and loved pheasant hunting with his brother and fishing when he was younger. Jerry dabbled in wood carving for a short time and also made race car trailers.
Jerry married Sharon Kay VanDuyn on December 31, 1959, and the two divorced after sixteen years, but remained close friends until her passing. Jerry leaves behind his three daughters: Kayla (Tom) Witsman, Dina (Robert) Jumps, and Stacey Hannan; six grandchildren: Daphne, Adam, Tabitha, Whitney, Courtney, and Zachary; and several great-grandchildren. His younger brother Kenneth (Cheryl) Hannan, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews will also greatly miss him. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Kevin Hannan, a grandson Joshua Witsman in Afghanistan, and seven brothers and sisters.
