Jerry Dean Wakeland

   Jerry Dean Wakeland, 56 of Covington, left his Earthly body on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. A memorial visitation will be on Friday, July 16th from 4-7pm (Illinois time) at Kruger Coan Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Following visitation, the family invites all of Jerry’s friends to a dinner and celebration at Sarge’s Tap, 409 E. Main Street in Danville.

   Jerry was born to Daniel and Nancy (Goulding) Wakeland on July 24, 1964 in Danville.  He loved working with his hands and made a career of it with Carpenter’s Union 859 out of Greencastle. He spent twenty-five plus years with them as a carpenter. In his free time Jerry was often outdoors, enjoying fishing at the river and boating. He was often found at auctions and antiquing at small shops.  He had a passion for music and family. He attended as many concerts as he could, and was never absent from family events.

   Jerry leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Cyndie (Byers) Wakeland; his children Blake Wakeland Lipa, Tabitha (Steven) Ellis, Courtney Wakeland, RJ (April) Massey, Jessica Abernathy-Rusk (Matt Rakausky), Stephen Abernathy (Amanda Woolwine), Dylan Kell, and Cynthia Faith Kell (Elyas Brant); his twelve grandchildren: Aubrey Ellis, Maddy, Marley and Mallory Massey, Jayce and Blayce Rusk, Mykah Abernathy, Jasmyn, Natalley and Chelsea Stabler, Bryan Woolwine, and Aspen ‘AJ” Brant. He also leaves behind his mother Nancy (Gerald) Drennan and a brother Jeff (Lisa) Wakeland, and his close friends Janet Sloan, and Jim Stevens. His father preceded him in death.
