Jimmy Sollars, 64 of Danville, left this world for a better place, on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at OSF Sacred Heart Hospital in Danville. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 21st at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville, from 4-7pm.
Jimmy was born in Danville on July 2, 1957 to John and Rachel (Onley) Sollars. He attended Danville schools through the tenth grade, and then joined the US Marines, serving for two years. Upon his return from the military Jimmy held a variety of jobs; he worked for Time Warner Cable, the Danville Humane Society, Robintech, and for many other small local businesses throughout the years. He was a man of many talents- from lifeguarding to building log cabins, there was nothing Jimmy couldn’t do. His favorite job, and his most recent, was as a bartender at O’Brien’s which he had done for the past fifteen years. He spent over twenty years coaching youth baseball at Prairie Farms for his sons and nephews. Jimmy enjoyed camping and fishing, playing pool (he was an amazing player), and playing poker. He was the biggest Cubs and Bears fan, and tried to never miss a game. He was an avid couch football coach, and you could hear him yelling blocks away. Jimmy enjoyed watching NASCAR, until Jeff Gordon retired that is. His favorite day of the week was Sunday service at O’Brien’s, which will never be the same.
On March 3, 1989, Jimmy married the love of his life Rebecca Long and the two have shared nearly thirty-three years together. He leaves behind his wife Rebecca; his children: Tonya Peters, Julie Sollars (Rob Brash), Steven (Kimberly) Sollars, John Sollars, and Angel Smith; his fifteen grandchildren: Skylar, Ethan, Dakota, Madilynn, Jayne, Hunter, Ryker, Steven, Easton, Eisley, a grandson due in June, Cleo, Chloe, Alexandria, Isiah; and a great grandbaby on the way. His siblings Wes Watkins and Vicky Steele, as well as his best friends John and Lora Martin will also miss him dearly. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents: John Sollars and Rachel Watkins, his brothers: Steven and Kevin, his beloved German Shepherd Demon, and his Chihuahua Baby Girl. They are now all reunited in Heaven and catching up on years of memories.
