JoAnn Cunningham Sanders, 91, of Danville died Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Accolade Healthcare in Danville, Illinois.
She was born March 8, 1931 in Rossville, Illinois, the daughter of the late Walter and Madlyne (Goldman) Cunningham. She first married Harry Rethelford of Rossville, then Donald Sanders of Danville on October 16, 1970. Donald preceded her in death on November 26, 2015.
Surviving are: Sons: David (Kathleen) Rethelford of Amelia Island, Florida, Mark Rethelford of Summerfield, Florida, Timothy (Sally) Sanders of Danville, Illinois; Daughters: Linda (John) Smith of Danville, Illinois and Lisa Craighead of Champaign, Illinois; Grandchildren: David Norman of Washington, Illinois, Dustin (Ashley) Rethelford of Yulee, Florida, Derek Rethelford of Bethalto, Illinois, twins David and Samuel Sanders of Danville, Illinois, Jason (Meagan) Smith of Saint Joseph, Illinois, Ryan (April) Smith of Bismarck, Illinois, Amber Strader of The Villages, Florida, and Aubrey (Brian) Ackerman of Coco, Florida; a niece: Gayle (Dwyane) Grider of Cayuga, Indiana and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Renee Strader; two brothers: Hubert “HD” Dale Cunningham, and her twin brother Jene Cunningham.
JoAnn was a 1947 graduate of Rossville High School. She worked at Elder-Beerman among her many other jobs she held throughout her life. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, belonging to the Eunice Society, Alter Guild and helped at the church wherever she could.
JoAnn enjoyed working in her garden, playing Bunco and being around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville, Illinois; Officiating: Pastor Kent Tibben; Visitation: 10 a.m. until time of service at the church; Burial: Walnut Corner Cemetery in Bismarck, Illinois.
