Joy Beebe Obituary

Joy Lynn Beebe (85) of Danville, IL passed away peacefully June 12, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL surrounded by family.

Joy Lynn was born on April 22, 1939 in Aurora, IL to William C. and Mercedes K. (Oberwise) Hall.  She married James D. Beebe of Cissna Park on August 5, 1961 in Elmhurst, IL.  He survives as well as their two children, Danielle (Scott) Wetle of Glen Ellyn, IL and Stephen (Gayle) Beebe of New Palestine, IN.

Joy Lynn was a beloved Grandmother of five surviving grandchildren, Alex, Joel, Eric, Mitchell and Madelyn.  She is also survived by her brother, Kurt Hall of Villa Park, IL, Sister-in-law Teressa (Wayne) Stevenson of Oxford, IN and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jon W. Hall, Lenexa KS and William C. Hall, Addison, IL.

Joy Lynn graduated with honors from Fenton High School and Illinois Wesleyan University (BME).  She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota music honorary and it was during this time at Wesleyan when she met the love of her life, Jim.  She began her teaching career in Mazon-Verona-Kinsman where she taught K-12 vocal music.  They moved to Gilman-Danforth where she continued to share her love of music.  Joy brought her passion for music education to Danville in 1969 as the Elementary Music Coordinator for District #118 Schools where she introduced Orff-Schulwerk to staff and students.  During her early years in Danville she pursued and completed her Master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  She was the inaugural recipient of the Illinois Music Educators’ Association’s Outstanding General Music Educator – Mary Hoffman award in 1999.  After she left administration, Joy went back into the classroom teaching at Tilton, Elmwood, and North Ridge Middle schools ending her teaching career of 40 years at Meade Park Elementary School.

In the community, Joy was also known for her incredible talents, starting Sunshine Productions with her husband Jim, directing the Danville chapter of Sweet Adelines, serving as past president of the Delta Beta chapter and Illinois State Music Chairman of Delta Kappa Gamma teaching honorary, past board member of the Danville Area Arts Council, past president of the Danville Garden Club, member of Holy Trinity Episcopal church, organist at Christway Church, certified election judge, and beloved voice and piano teacher to many!

There will be a visitation Monday, June 17, 2024 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Danville, IL from 10:00-12:00pm with a Burial Mass immediately following at noon.  Memorial donations may be made to the Meade Park school supply fund at Christway Church, Danville, or the food pantry at Church of the Holy Trinity.

The family has entrusted Kruger Funeral Home with arrangements.
