Joyce Bays, 86 of Danville, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 10th from 4-6pm at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Services will take place at 10am on Wednesday, January 11th at the funeral home with Rev. James Blue officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband Carl at Atherton Cemetery following.
Joyce was born on July 8, 1936 in Tuscumbia, AL. to Lawrence and Gladys (James) Von Boeckman. She attended school in Athens, Alabama through the ninth grade. Joyce married Carl Julius Bays on December 20, 1956 and the two shared just short of forty-six years together before his passing in 2002.
Joyce was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her children, and later helping with the grandchildren. She worked for short periods of time as a waitress and also babysat. Joyce was a firm believer in God and enjoyed spreading the Word and reading her Bible. She was an amazing card player- especially euchre, rummy, and canasta. BINGO and Yahtzee were her favorite past times during the last few years while she was in the nursing home.
Joyce leaves behind her children: Michael (Lisa) Bays, James Bays, Wendell (Cindy) Bays, and Alice McGuire; twelve grandchildren including her grandson Patrick who has cared for her ever since he was able; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four infant siblings, granddaughter: Sherri Bays, and a daughter-in-law: Becky Bays.
