Linda Porter Obituary

Linda Christine Porter, 82 of Danville, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Goldwater Care in Danville. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 11th from 11-Noon at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Services will follow at 12pm at Kruger Funeral Home with Rev. Williams officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery immediately following.

Linda was born August 17, 1941 in Danville to Harold and Henrietta Hancock. She was married to Chuck “Papsy” Porter and the two shared forty-eight wonderful years together until his passing in 2006. Linda worked at Woolworths after graduating high school and later Kmart, Colonial Manor, and Provena USMC until she retired after eighteen years in 2004.

Linda was a lifetime member of West Side Church of the Nazarene, and was a devoted Nazarene who loved watching her Gather tapes so she could sing and rejoice. She enjoyed watching the Game Show Network because she said it kept her young and smart. If you knew Linda, you heard her talk about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren non-stop; because that was who she lived for. Memaw was the name affectionately given to her that stuck. She raised many of her grandbabies as her own, and gave up her Florida retirement days to do so, which they are very thankful for. Linda gave each of her babies the best life anyone could ask for and made them who they are today. Whether you called her Memaw, Grandma, Great Grandma, or Friend; you always knew how much she loved you. And still does.

Linda leaves behind her children: Seresa Gardner, Nerissa Place, Nerinda Vaughn, and Lanny Ray; grandchildren: Dalton (Kaylie Jo) Rodriquez, Jessica (Mike) Rodriguez, Austin (Sierra) Rodriguez, Preston (Alysa Alva) Williams, Hailee Williams, Holly (Prince) Holt, Christian Vaughn, McCale Ware, and Taylor Vaughn; great grandbabies: Lexi, Lauren, Bauer, Benjamin, Trey, Amani, and Ariyah; and a great-great granddaughter Myla Ann Gardner. She was also blessed to have special friendships with hundreds of people, but especially Susan Swinford, Wilma Beeson, Sandy Kepling, Jan Cash, Rita Hufford, Paula Broderick, Kay Reffett, Cheryl Blackford, and Pam Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Chuck.
