Lyle "Budd" Winkler Obituary

Lyle C. "Budd" Winkler 74 of Danville, IL, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Born and raised in Tilton, IL, on June 22, 1950, to Lyle E. and Betty L. Winkler, Budd lived a life full of love, laughter, and hard work.

Budd married Suzan (Moore) Winkler on December 5, 1970, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Danville, IL. They renewed their vows on their 50th Anniversary at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria, IL.

They shared a loving marriage of 54 years and raised two wonderful sons, Douglas (Debbie) Winkler and Darin (Ashley) Winkler. Budd was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Sierra (Tyler) Vibbert, Kennedy Winkler, Ayrton Winkler, and Jaret Moody, and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Axel Vibbert. He cherished his father-in-law Andy Moore (Pipefitter Mentor), mother-in-law Marie Moore, his two brothers-in-law, Tony Moore, Andrew (Christie) Moore and sister Connie Matry. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Karen Grubb, Diana Winkler, and Dana Winkler. Budd's legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will be cherished by his family and friends.

Budd was a member of Pipefitters Local Union 293, which later merged with Local Union 157, and was a devoted member for 55 years. Known as "the best fitter he ever knew," Budd was admired for his hard work and willingness to help others. He formed lasting friendships and made a significant impact on those around him. Budd’s hobbies were numerous; he enjoyed training and running his beagles, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Budd also loved listening to music, especially Classic Country.

Budd's love story with Suzan began at her 8th-grade graduation party, where he played in a garage band during the 60s. It was at that moment they fell in love, creating a lifetime of beautiful memories together. Budd graduated from Oakwood High School in 1968, where he was an outstanding athlete in Track and Football, lettering all four years in each sport. He still holds the 220-yard dash (200 m) record of 21.3 seconds and held the record for the 100-yard dash for many years, which he was very proud of. It was also during this time that he again met Suzan, who would become the love of his life.

Budd's visitation will be from 2-4pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 444 E. Main Street in Danville.
