Maria Del Carmen Garza, 52 of Danville, left this life for a better place on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. A Memorial Visitation will be from 10-11am on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Services will follow at 11am with Pastor Henry Bell Jr officiating. She will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Maria was born December 16, 1970 in Hoopeston, Illinois to Cesar and Consuelo Garza. She attended Danville Schools and went on to earn her Associate’s Degree from DACC in Graphic Design. Maria worked for over ten years at Community Action in various positions. She volunteered in her community and enjoyed her time working in the concession stand for The Danville Chargers. Maria was a longtime member of Old Fashioned United Baptist Church of Independence, Indiana where she loved spending time with her church family. She had a testimonial salvation. Maria enjoyed taking pictures, spending time with those she loved, and doting on her grandchildren. Maria was a big fan of Christmas, trips to the movies, arts and crafts projects, and baking with both her children and grandchildren.
Maria leaves behind a large and loving family. Her two children: Robert (Alexis) Garza and Briana (Brittany) Garza, her mother Consuelo Shelato, and her grandchildren: Krowley, Coulson, LaSarah, Yandell, and Manuel will miss her love, her big personality, and her laughter. Her bonus children Kapria Collins and Robert B. Collins Jr; her sister Adriana (Femi) Alabi; her bonus siblings: Chuck (Shane) Shelato II, Ronald (Patty) Shelato, and Dennis Billings; her niece and nephew: Femi II and Ayoola Alabi; her aunts and uncles: Angel (Maria) Garza; Mario (Zina) Garza and numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins will also miss her greatly.
Maria is preceded in death by her father Cesar, her stepfather Charles Shelato, a sister Sonna Billings and both her maternal and paternal grandparents.
