Martha Mae (Thomas) Kagels

    Martha Mae Kagels, 89 of Danville, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Accolade Healthcare in Danville, surrounded by her family. She was just a week shy of her 90th birthday. A visitation will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Kruger Coan Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Park, officiated by Jay Sorrell, and she will be laid to rest next to her husband Robert.

   Martha was born on November 17, 1931 in Danville to Edward Allen and Bertha Josephone (Delaunois) Thomas. She attended Grant Grade School and Danville High School. After leaving school she worked for a few years at Gasthoff, who did window displays for all of the local businesses. After that she began the most important job anyone could take on- that as a homemaker and a mother. Martha enjoyed being outside, going camping, spending time with her children and later grandchildren, and square dancing. She was also part of a bowling league with Robert when they first got married.

   Martha married Robert L. Kagels on June 11, 1950, and the two shared forty-eight years before his passing in December of 1998. They raised two children together, and built a wonderful life full of many good times and memories. Martha leaves behind her two children: Randy (Mary Jane) Kagels and Tammy (Marshall) Lappin; five grandchildren: Randy Kagels II, Melissa Hollingsworth, and Brian Hollingsworth, Courtney Aguire, Corey Lappin; as well as two great grandchildren, with a third to arrive any day. She was preceded in passing by her parents, her husband, and her three siblings: Joseph Thomas, Pete Thomas, and Marie Montgerard.
