Mary “Pauline” Mellinger, 94, of Danville, IL, passed away on February 20, 2022 at OSF Sacred Heart Hospital, with her family by her side. She was born to parents Ernest Lawless and Eunice Lawless, on January 13, 1928 in Paxton, IL.

Mary married Jerry Mellinger in 1974 at Lincoln Methodist Church, Danville, IL. They were married until his death in 2012. They shared five children: Carla Cox Fraley (Jim) of Danville, Danny E. Cox of Naples,FL, Flip Mellinger (Marisel) of Land O Lakes, FL, David Mellinger of Ocala, FL, and Lee Mellinger of Boston, MA, and all survive. Her grandchildren Darin Tevebaugh (Keisha) , Chasity Lange (Brian) , Daniel Cox , Sarah Cox , Mark Milligan and family, Kristen Neff and family, Becca Marcheschi and family, Daniel Mellinger (Jenna), Dennis Mellinger, Sarah Hodder and Chris Mellinger. Her Great Grandchildren Landon Frazier, Kendall and Sydney Tevebaugh, Tristen Mellinger, and Avin Mellinger also survive.   She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents Eunice and Ernest Lawless, two brothers: Gene Lawless and Roy Lawless, and an aunt Martha Carnes.

Pauline was employed at Meis Bros. as Dept. Manager of the Boy Scout and Men’s Dept. for several years in the late sixties. She later retired and moved to Dunnellon, Florida, where she enjoyed cooking at a little restaurant nearby. She moved back to Danville in 2012 to be close to her family.

She enjoyed gardening and flowers that took up her entire yard and always knew how to keep them alive when one of us couldn’t. She loved cooking and baking pies. Her most famous recipes were her homemade chicken and noodles and chocolate pie that her family always loved. She lived on her own until the last 3 1/2 years of her life and then moved in with her daughter. She  enjoyed spending most of her time with her family and also loved her time with her grandkids and great grandkids very much.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Mary Gindi, her family, and the rest of her amazing staff for the love they extended to us and Mom. Also to OSF Sacred Heart Hospital, their ER department, nurses, doctors, and to the chaplain for their care over the past several months. Their patience and care for Mom will never be forgotten. Per Mary’s request, she will be cremated with no public service. The family will have a private celebration of life this coming week. Cards and flowers may be sent to Carla’s attention at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E.
