Raymond “Butch” Meeker, 74 of Tilton, formerly of Danville, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 with his family by his side. Per his wishes he will be cremated and graveside services will be at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, March 12th at 10:30am with military honors by American Legion Post 210.
Butch was born on February 6, 1948 in Danville to Raymond and Sona (Lewin) Meeker Sr. He grew up in Westville and enlisted in the US Army in 1965, serving during Vietnam until 1969. Upon his return, Butch began his career in roofing, later going on to work at Illinois Fireworks, and finally as a truck driver. In his free time, he enjoyed taking his wife dancing, having a drink with his friends, and helping his friends dirt track racing.
After fourteen years together, Butch married Cheryl Pepperdine on October 29, 1988, and the two share twenty-one years of marriage together before her death in 2009. Butch leaves behind six children: Rockie (Tracy) Meeker, Amber Meeker, Heather Meeker (Paul Sanders), Dawn Wilcox, Tina Pepperdine (Jerry), and John Lewis; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; and two sisters: Susan Meeker Van Pelt and Jeana Hoskins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
