Jim was born on September 14, 1933 to Hanley and Laura (Hegley) Miller, and was raised by his grandmother Emma D. Miller. He later married Connie Spears January of 1980, and a daughter was adopted by the couple, who also survives. Connie passed away in February of 2011. Surviving are Jim’s children: Connie (David) Miller-Green, James Paul Miller, Esther Johnson, Sarah Smith (Monte Campbell), Angela (Jason) Zarn; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. One sister Martha Penrod and her three children also survive, as well as some half-siblings he lost track of over the years.
