Rita Hostetler Obituary

Rita Jane (Rheinheimer) Hostetler, 80, of Goshen, IN, formerly of Bismarck, IL, went Home to join her loved ones in Heaven on November 27, 2024 at the Center for Hospice Care Esther’s House in Elkhart. She was one day shy of celebrating her 81st birthday.

Rita was born November 28, 1943 in Goshen, IN to the late Walter “Scott” and Phyllis (Poyser) Rheinheimer. Rita lived a life of service, dedicated to serving others where she applied her social work degree. Along side her husband Bob, she served as a volunteer missionary in New Mexico cooking for the children on the reservation. They volunteered as EMT’s in Bismarck as well as for the American Red Cross. Rita routinely donated blood and plasma to the American Red Cross. When not taking care of others, Rita enjoyed reading, painting, cooking and baking, and tending to anything she planted. She also enjoyed teaching others and passing along her knowledge of many things.

Rita married Robert Hostetler on August 14, 1974, and the two shared 27 years of marriage before his passing in November 2001. She and Bob enjoyed their life together traveling and living in several states, West Virginia, South Carolina, Texas, New Mexico and eventually Illinois.

She is survived by her son, Grant (Cindy) Roberts, Sr of Goshen. Grandchildren, Nichole (Chris) Warp and Grant (Tiffany) Roberts, Jr of Elkhart. Great-Grandchildren, Bradyn and Trenton Warp and Cayden and Blake Roberts. Her sisters, Linda (Ed) Farmwald of Goshen and Deb (Rod) Cart of Elkhart. And many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, son Gregg Roberts, brother Shorty Rheinheimer, stepfather Max Snyder, and father of her sons Gary Roberts.

Rita had a big heart and was a kind person, with a generous spirit that will carry on after death, as she has chosen to donate her body to anatomical study. Following Rita’s request, there will not be a service. Donations can be made in Rita’s memory to The Center for Hospice Care or American Red Cross.
