Robert Lewis Swider, 89 of Danville, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at OSF Sacred Heart Hospital in Danville. Visitation will be from 10-12pm on Monday, April 7th at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Services will follow at Noon with James Elrod officiating. Following services, Bob will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery off of Shangri-la Road.
Bob was born in Danville on July 21, 1935 to Anthony Eugene and Helen Elizabeth (Cooper) Swider Sr. He attended Edison school in Westville, Daniel Grade School, and Hawbuck School through the eight grade. Bob worked as a Union Concrete Finisher for sixty years, and also owned Swider and Sons Roofing Company for some time as well. He spent thirty years as a Volunteer Fireman for Kickapoo Fire District. Bob enjoyed bowling, attending antique car shows, and going cruising in his 68 Chevelle. Later in life he found a love for going on Caribbean cruises, and at eighty years old took his first plane flight. Bob was a member of the Attica MOOSE Lodge and just celebrated fifty years of membership.
Bob married Verla May Lewis on January 1, 1955 in Westville. The two shared forty-eight years of marriage together before her passing in 2003. Bob leaves behind his children: Verla “Sue” Swider, Robert (Janice) Swider, Cindy Swider, and Linda (Dan) Davis; ten grandchildren: Brandye (Kris) Kizer, Robby (Rebecca) Swider, Jarrod (Caesi) Swider, Dale (Danica) Swider, Brad (Amber) Jordan, Josey (Kristy) Jordan, Chuck (Becky) Jordan, Cory Swider, Danny (Misty) Davis, and Krystal (John) Guzman; thirty-three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; a close nephew who worked by his side for several years: Robert Lewis; and his best friend John “Goat” (Alice) Hires. He also leaves behind his second childhood sweetheart, who he reunited with just three years ago, Irene Spicer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Verla, a daughter: Cathy Swider, three brothers, and two sisters.
