Ruby Coon Obituary

Ruby Katherine Coon, 79 of Danville, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at her home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 13th from 4-7pm at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Funeral Services will be at 10am on Thursday, August 14th at 10am. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Charles.

   Ruby was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 15, 1945 to Richard Lawrence and Ruth Mae (Phillips) Claypool. She attended elementary school in Mount Clemmons, and later moved to Danville where she would later graduate from DHS in 1963. She later attended DACC where she enjoyed taking creative writing classes. Throughout the years Ruby worked as a CNA for twenty-years at Colonial Manor and later as a Hostess at Red Lobster.

   Ruby enjoyed researching genealogy for herself and others, spending time with her ever-growing family, attending auctions, and taking trips to Branson, Missouri with anyone who would go with her. She also had a passion for veterans, and loved distributing challenge coins to every veteran she met.

   Ruby married Charles Edward Coon on September 5, 1964, and the two would spend thirty-seven years together before his passing in 2001. She leaves behind her two sons: Steven Edward (Linda) Coon and John Edward Coon; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, two sons: Richard Edward and Charles Edward II, two brothers: Ronald Eugene Claypool and Richard Lawrence Claypool, and a great grandson: McCoy.
