He liked listening to music and dancing and checking out the 4x4 trucks and muscle cars at car shows. Russ enjoyed a good cup of coffee at the diner, telling stories and joking with his children and grandchildren, and all things Christmas.

Russ married Karen Kempf and his daughter Shann and son Shawn were born. He later married Lois Henson and his daughter Rebecca and sons: Ryan, Donald, Kevin, Stephen, and Russell came from this union. In 1993 he married Mary Huron and they later separated. He is survived by his children: Shann (Allen) Beale, Shawn Kight, Rebecca (Terry) Kight, Ryan Robbins, Donald Robbins, Kevin (Kerri) Robbins, and Stephen Robbins; grandchildren: Sierra Kight, Aliyah Cooke, Brycen Kight, Benjamin Kight, Bauer Rodriguez, Amani Rodriguez, Dustin Robbins, Ashley Robbins, Kevin Robins Jr, Emily Schendel, Tyler Jones, Kayla Jones, Samantha Comstock, Donald Robbins Jr, Brooklyn Robbins, and Shayna Kight; sisters Pat Duryeah and Sandy Kight; and sister-in-law: Elaine Leadbetter.
