Sharon Kay Smith, 83 of Danville and formerly of Peoria, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at La Bella Nursing Home of Danville. Per her wishes, a Memorial Service will be planned at a later date.
Sharon was born on February 13, 1941 in East Peoria, Illinois to John and Arabelle (Cannon) Engle. She spent her childhood growing up in Peoria with her nine brothers and sisters. Upon graduating from high school in 1949, she began working at Woolworths in the soda shop, and later moved on to being a waitress. After that she mainly worked at Federal Warehouse in East Peoria which she retired from. Sharon loved BINGO, and not only played, but also volunteered to help as well. Her and Daniel (her husband) would travel all over just to play. She loved to cook, and Dad absolutely adored everything she made. She enjoyed reading fiction novels and watching Wheel of Fortune. Sharon was a good, hard working, family-oriented woman who had a heart of gold.
Sharon married Daniel Arthur Smith on August 21, 1965 and the two shared a love that only grew deeper and stronger throughout the years. When Daniel passed away on September 16, 2002, Sharon lost a piece of her heart and missed him every day. She leaves behind her two children: Monica Anderson and Douglas Alexander Smith; a granddaughter: Racheal Anderson; a sister: Phyllis Jones; two brothers: Dennis Engle and Mike Engle; and dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Daniel, a daughter Kimberly Smith, and six brothers and sisters.
