Shirley Ann (Purple) Craft, 85, of Danville Illinois passed away at her residence on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 7:20am.
Shirley was born in Fountain County, Indiana on December 25, 1935. She was the daughter of Albert Z. and Catherine F. (Witsman) Purple. She was raised and educated in Covington and later moved to Danville.
She is survived by four daughters, Debbie (Bill) Carpenter of Danville, Cindy (Mark) Pittman of Wellington Colorado, Pam (Terry) Jones of Danville, and Sue Binkley of Danville.
She is also survived by two sisters, Elva Bailey of Crawfordsville, Indiana and Frances (Eldon) Quick of Rantoul, and one brother, Harlan Purple of Covington.
Shirley leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Sara (Erik) Mains of Westville, Aaron Patterson of Bloomington, Amanda (Geoff) Olmstead of Timnath Colorado, Chase (Kim) Pittman of Wellington Colorado, Brent (Pamela) Jones of Oakville Missouri, Traci (Brian) Baker of Spaulding Illinois, Megan (Robbie) Ketcherside of Danville, Katie (Chas) Rouse of Danville, Mike (Courtney) Carpenter of Oakwood, John Carpenter of Collison, and Brian (Aubrey) Carpenter of Danville. Shirley was also the proud ‘Granny’ of 21 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Scheurich and two brothers, Wilmer and Bill Purple and one son-in-law, Fred Binkley.
Shirley was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed many bus trips with friends to watch them play at Wrigley Field. She also enjoyed collecting angels and had quite a beautiful display throughout her home.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated. There will be a visitation on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 2-5pm CDT at Kruger-Coan-Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington Indiana.
