Shirley Jean Martin, 85 of Georgetown, went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at OSF Sacred Heart in Danville. Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Friday, December 22nd at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Services will follow at 6pm with Tim Pearman officiating.
Shirley was born in Danville on October 14, 1938 to Charles and Thelma (Cooper) Keele. She attended Danville Schools, leaving in her senior year to enter the working world. Throughout the years Shirley worked as a waitress, a bartender, a hotel manager, an office cleaner, a clerk at Gold Rush Pawn Shop, and at GE. You could say she was a woman of all trades. When she wasn’t working, Shirley enjoyed her crafts- she loved to work with her hands, creating magnets and crosses, and making gifts for everyone from the heart. She could make something out of anything. Family BINGO was a big hit that everyone enjoyed, and she was often the winner (not saying she cheated).
Shirley leaves behind her children: Deanna (John) Duez, Greg McCord, and Tim Wonderlin, and Star (Tracy Atwood) McCord; her adopted daughter Kathy Hooker; more grandchildren than she could count; a handful of great-grandchildren; and she was just beginning to gather great-great grandchildren. Shirley will also be greatly missed by her sister Evelyn Cooke. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother: Kenton, two sisters: Pat Gill and Betty Nash, a son Jeff McCord, and a daughter Lori Lawson.
