Stephen Cunningham Obituary

Stephen Donald Cunningham, 68, of Danville (formerly of Oaklawn, IL and Cape Coral, FL) passed away at 7:36am on December 19, 2025. Steve was the youngest child of Dorothy (Broderick) and Wayne Cunningham. They both preceded him in death,

Stevie Don, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Schlarman High school in 1975 and Illinois State University in 1979 in Construction Management. He moved to the Chicago area after graduation and worked in his chosen field. He met his wife, Debbie, on a job site. They moved to Cape Coral, FL area in 2009 where she passed away on December 9, 2020. Steve then moved back to Danville in march of 2021.

In high school, Steve was an athlete playing football and basketball. During the summer, he was on the Vermilion Hills Country Club swim team and was a life guard at Vermilion Gardens. In college and after, he was the life of the party! He was fun-loving and always had a smile! You could always find him with either a baseball hat or a stocking cap on! He loved the Chicago white Sox, Chicago Bears, the Blackhawks and golf!

Survivors include his sister, Nancy (Mike) O’Kane and their children, Sean (Christina) and sons Connor and Nolan; Kristi (Shawn) Manion and children Noah and Kendall; Amy (Mike) Kelsey and their children Payton and Madi; Erik (Heathe Price); sister-in-law Anita Cunningham and children Todd (Sharon), Brandi (Brad) and Kerry (Justin) along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ken and sister Connie.

Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 444 E. Main Street in Danville, on December 27, 2025, with a Mass at 10am by Monsignor James Kruse. Visitation will be one hour prior to mass. Cremation rites will be accorded with Kruger Funeral Home and Crematory. He will be buried with his mother at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all those that cared for Steve throughout the last four plus pears, especially his best friends since high school and his partner in crime Rich and Mary Randall, Accolade Healthcare of Danville who were absolutely amazing, and Transitions Care who took care of him the last week in a caring and thoughtful manner!
