Thomas N. Horton of Tilton, Illinois passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 at The Waters of Covington Nursing Home in Covington, Indiana. A Memorial Visitation will be on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 1-3pm at Kruger Funeral Home,10 E. Williams Street in Danville.
Tom was born to James T. and Wanita (Bozell) Horton Jr in Tipton, Indiana on October 5, 1951. He graduated from Tipton High School. After graduating Tom worked for Norfolk & Western railroad which is what brought him to Danville in 1974. Following the railroad he worked as a bus driver for First Student where he drove a school bus for District 118 until his retirement.
Tom married Nancy Harmeson on July 31st, 1999 and the two shared twenty-four years together before she passed in 2023.
In November of 2010 Tom was a heart transplant recipient. He would have left us long before now if not for the donor’s unselfish generosity.
Tom had an immense love for The Beatles. He enjoyed telling stories from his years of being a bus driver, playing trivia games, and doing puzzles and crosswords. Tom was a diehard Cubs fan.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, both of his parents, a brother John Horton, and his brothers-in-law: Charles Harmeson Jr and Steven Harmeson.
Tom is survived by his family which includes Vickie & Don Albright, Brian Harmeson, Donna Harmeson, Lisa & Dewey McClain, Donna Horton, Amanda Broughton, Tina Edwards, Tyler Harmeson, Crystal Lewis, Alicia McClain, Nakita McClain, Ryan McClain, Angela Smith, Brande Winchester, and several great nieces and nephews.
