Walter Joseph Schwartz, 64 of Georgetown, left us too soon on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria. Burial will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10 am at Danville National Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 210. A Celebration of his life will immediately follow at First Church of Christ, Georgetown, IL.
Walter was born on November 12, 1958 in Chicago to Walter and Marjorie (Kennedy) Schwartz. He attended school in the Chicago area before enlisting in the US Army where he proudly served his country for one term. Walter worked off jobs when he was younger, but has been disabled most of his adult life.
He enjoyed watching Chicago sports and was a huge Cubs and Bears fan. When he was physically able, he loved to bowl and spent many years bowling in different leagues. One of his favorite memories was when he as able to bowl on a league with his daughter. He was quite a talented bowler. He loved his dogs, Sarge and Mr. Wilson. He recently gained a beautiful church family at the First Church of Christ.
Walter married Nora Saylor in 1980 and the two have shared the past forty-three years together. He leaves behind his wife Nora; his daughter Nicole Lapenas; his granddaughter Madelyn Lapenas; his sister Jackie Cavera, and his half brothers Chuck and George Miller. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kandie Dopkowski.
