William "Bill" Marietta Obituary

William “Bill” Joseph Marietta, 74 of Danville passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital due to complications from an auto accident. Per his wishes he will be cremated and a Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 2-5pm at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville.

Bill was born to Ernest and Betty (Morris) Marietta on September 3, 1949 in Blanford, Indiana. After graduating high school, Bill entered the working world. He retired from the railroad after 44 years of service.  Bill owned and operated Bargain Auto for several years and was promotor for the Vermilion County Speedway. For the past 19 years he dedicated his life to caring for his wife. In his free time Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and socializing with his friends and neighbors. Bill always had a smile on his face and didn’t know a stranger.  He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, and always had a story to tell.  Bill enjoyed playing softball and baseball and dirt track racing in his younger years. He was a diehard Cubs fan.

Bill married Judy (Jones) Marietta on October 1, 1967 and the two have shared the past fifty-six years together.  Survivors include his one and only love- Judy; his two daughters: Carla (Tom) Stewart and Sherry Ogden; seven grandchildren: Allison (Collin) Alexander, Brandon (Shelby) Gray, Tyler Gutterridge (special friend Lacie Maxfield), Lindsey Welch, Lauren Welch, Paul Ogden Jr. and Lea Ogden; eleven great grandchildren: Cooper, Wyatt, Payton, Gabriel, Vanessa, Braydon, Zaydon, Skylar, Clayton, Kaidan, and Xavier;  Brother Ernest ‘Bunky” (Linda) Marietta Jr; and a handful of nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents and his stepmother Lucille Marietta.
