William "Bill" Sohn Obituary

William “Bill” Sohn, 72 of Danville, lost his courageous battle with kidney failure on Sunday, November 2, 2025. He passed at home surrounded by those he loved. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville from 1-3pm on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Bill was born on January 14, 1953 in Joliet to Alvin and Roberta (Brown) Sohn. He attended and graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1971. Bill then enrolled at University of Notre Dame where he was on the National Honor Society, Latin Club, Dean’s List, Rugby Football Team, and the Letterman’s Club before he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts. He was also President of the Economic Honors Fraternity in 1974. Following his graduation from Notre Dame, Bill attended Rutgers School of Law in Camden, NJ, where he was Outstanding Senior of the Class of 1978. He was accepted to the State of Illinois Bar Association on April 26, 1979, and the Bar of District Court of the US, Northern District of Illinois on May 20, 1981. Bill was a very educated man.

Bill worked as an attorney his entire professional life. He began his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Joliet from 1979-1981 and as a sole practitioner from 1981- 1986. Bill then worked from 1986 through 1990 at Hyatt Legal Services in LaGrange, Robert Grimm & Associations in Monee, James P. Morgan & Associations in Oak Brook, and at Brenner, Mavrias, Dorn & Alm in New Lenox. He finished his career as the First Assistant Public Defender in Danville from 1991 to September 2010, and The Doyle Law Team from June 2011 until 2020.

Bill was a proud Holy Cross Hogs alumni (Notre Dame) and made sure to never miss a game or reunion until this year. He was seriously injured in an automobile accident while at Notre Dame but he still continued to run 5-26.2 mile marathons since.  Bill enjoyed traveling, visiting the casinos, and enjoying a good meal out. His grandchildren were the apples of his eye and he loved visiting with them.

Bill leaves behind his wife of twenty-five years, Paula (Masulis) Sohn. They have truly lived through the good, the bad, the sickness, and the health, and Paula will miss him every day.  He also leaves behind his children: Nicholas (Derly) Sohn and Katelynn (Chris Confer) Sohn; a sister: Sally Wolenczak; four grandchildren: Angelina, Aubree, Leonela, and Mason; his three sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and more friends than we could ever count. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, and a brother Steven Sohn.
