Harold Sprague Brandenburg Obituary

Harold Dale Sprague Brandenburg, just shy of 91 years old, passed away as his family and his friend Bruce Parr were at his side on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at his home. Visitation will be from 11-1pm on Wednesday, July 6th at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Services will follow at 1pm with his son Major Dale Brandenburg and Pastor Bruce Parr officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 210.

Dale was born on July 20, 1931 in Longview, Illinois to Benjamin Franklin and Ollie (Davis) Brandenburg. He lived in Bronson, IL and attended school there through the eighth grade. Dale enlisted in the US Army in July of 1948 and served until 1952 during the Korean War. Dale was a jack of all trades; working on the railroad, at Koehn Dodge as a service writer, at the Westville Police Dept, he sold Jewel Tea, and built houses just to name a few. He was appointed by Bob Jones and then served as an Alderman for Ward 3 for nine years in the early 2000’s. Every Sunday for nearly seven years you could find Dale at Christway Church where he was a faithful member. Dale could often be found outdoors as he enjoyed fishing, camping, and working in “his woods” clearing brush and cutting down trees. He was also a fan of NASCAR. For the past three years you could find Dale playing Gospel music in the front yard and waving to his neighbors.

Dale married Barbara S. Hood on December 23, 1983 in Danville and the two have shared nearly forty years together. Surviving are his wife Barbara; six children: Randy Brandenburg, Pam Taylor, Dale (Sandy) Brandenburg, Becky Albin, Debbie (Matt) O’Brien, and Julie Brandenburg; two sisters: Betty Cundiff and Reba Sanford; and several grandchildren including Whitney O’Brien to whom he was very close, great-grandchildren, and great- great- grandchildren, and a special niece Sharon Kaye Marsh. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Lyman, and three sisters: Lorraine, Jackie, and Pearl.
