John Allan Young

John Allan Young, 94 of Union Corner, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2023 at his home, with loved ones by his side. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 9-11am at Grape Creek Baptist Church, 13658 Grape Creek Rd, Danville. Services will follow at 11am with Pastors David Leary and Joe Humrichous officiating. Following the funeral John will be laid to rest at Atherton Cemetery next to his beloved Betty.

   John was born September 19, 1928 in Danville to Kelso and Rosa (Wickman) Young. He attended Perrysville Grade School and Westville High School, graduating in 1946. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served in The Great lakes Region. John was born with farming in his blood and worked the family land until his 90th birthday. He drove a semi for a short time for Rodger’s as well. John sat on the Westville School Board and the Farm Bureau Board, and was a current member of First Baptist Church of Covington.

   John married Betty Spicer in June of 1951 and the two shared just shy of 58 years together before her death in May of 2009. From this marriage came four children: Polly, Dan, Peggy, and Roy. John later married Marlene (Wall) Rudolph in August of 2012 and she survives. Also surviving are three children: Polly (Brad) Young Akers, Dan (Carmen) Young, and Roy (Karen) Young; six grandchildren: Danielle (Jason) Shaffer, Amber Young, Hunter Marvin, Trisha (Chris) Cooper, Kristen (Joshua) McCool, and Casey Young; and eight great-grandchildren: Brayden, Brandon, Derek, Jacob, Shelbey, Alexis, Mason, and Tanner. Marlene’s children Kevin, and Ken Rudolph and Kathy Swick also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, a sister Irma DeWitt, and an infant daughter Peggy Sue Young.
