Kelly Jean (Egan) Smith

Kelly Jean Smith, 65 of Catlin, left us suddenly on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Carle in Urbana. Visitation will be from 10am to Noon on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Eastern Star Services will begin at 12pm and funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin.

   Kelly was born January 21, 1958 in Chicago to Frank and Cornelia (Boerema) Egan. She attended Lincoln Grade School and E. Leyden High School and later took courses at DACC. Kelly had a love for people and animals, and worked at both St. Elizabeth and Lakeview in different positions. She did caregiving for a short time, cleaned at the Masonic Temple, worked visitations at Kruger Funeral Home, and spent many years working for Kruger’s ATA Martial Arts as an After School Coordinator. She won multiple awards with her Brittany Spaniels throughout the years and was Past President of the Danville, Illinois Kennel Club. She had been a member of Eastern Star since 1995, was a Grand Adah in 2007, and was Worthy Matron of Iris Chapter 307 six times. Kelly also enjoyed traveling and taking cruises.

   Kelly married Montell Smith on December 9, 1978 at the old Methodist Church in Catlin, and he survives. Also surviving is her mother-in-law Ida Johnson; two brothers-in-law: John Hubbard and Scott Smith; a sister-in-law: Emily Bockelman Egan; and three nephews: Kyle Smith, Zachary Hubbard, and Austin Hubbard. Her two fur babies Walter and Sammie will greatly miss her as well. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Frank.
