Lonnie Lee Swinford, 77 of Danville, went Home to be with The Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Accolade Healthcare in Danville. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 16th from 10am-Noon at First Baptist Church, 1211 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. Services will follow at Noon with Pastor Paul Rebert officiating. Burial will be at Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck.
Lon was born October 16, 1946 in Mattoon to Floyd “Bud” and Colleen (Mauzy) Swinford. He attended Mattoon area schools and graduated from Mattoon High School in 1964. Lon worked at Towne Machine and Tool as a Machinist for forty years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and landscaping, and enjoyed his time caring for the church flower gardens for many years. Lon enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren as well.
Lon married Ruby Edwards on May 1, 1965 in Mattoon, and the two have shared nearly fifty-nine years together. Surviving is his wife Ruby; his two sons: Derrick (Jill) Swinford and Jason Swinford; four grandchildren: Chelsea (Jordan) Haynes, Hannah (Kenzie) Noel, Hailee Swinford, and Luke Swinford; and his six great grandchildren: Kiera, Ellie, Cayson, Cora, Maverick, and Dutton. His brother Jeff (Vickie) Swinford, a sister-in-law: Susie Swinford, as well as several nieces and nephews will greatly miss him as well. Lon was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Kevin Swinford.
