Rodney "Rod" Brickey Obituary

   Rod (Rodney Lyle) Brickey was born on April 8, 1950 in Danville, Illinois. Rod was  born  just 5 days before his wife, Janet Carlson Brickey. Rod and Janet were delivered in the same hospital by the same doctor, and were married in Richmond, Virginia on November 23,1977. Rod and Janet’s children are Chris Brickey (husband Wiley Kestner) of Paris, France and Ben Brickey of Seattle. Rod is also survived by his brothers Tom Brickey, Ross Brickey, a sister Sue Plater as well as several nephews and nieces.

 Rod graduated from Danville High School in 1968 attended SIU for a year then was drafted for the Vietnam War and volunteered for the U.S. Marines where he received 3 meritorious promotions and several service medals.

Rod always enjoyed both formal and informal learning, attending Southern Illinois University, Wharton College, University of Tennessee, and Eastern Illinois University. Rod graduated Suma Cum Laude from college receiving his last degree at age 62.

Rod’s diverse career allowed him travel to 49 states, 2 US Territories, and  40 international countries. He attained the position of Executive Director  at General Motors after beginning work as a draftsman. After leaving GM he held positions as Owner, President, and Vice-president in the engineering, environmental, energy, and construction industry around the world. During his working career Rod also was a member of 3 unions and  was granted an honorary membership status by the UAW International.

Rod worked as long as his health allowed him as he enjoyed mentoring younger people and he felt working gave him an added purpose for each day. Rod enjoyed golf and playing poker with his high school friends while maintaining friendships around the globe.

A visitation for Rod will be from 12-1pm (1-2pm IN) on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Graveside Services will follow at 1:30pm Monday (2:30pm IN time) at Spring Hill Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors by American Legion Post 210. The family requests that no floral arrangements be sent as they will be traveling and cannot take them. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Rod's memory to your favorite charity.
